Jets Hold on to Beat Browns 27-20 for 2nd Win in a Row

The New York Jets got touchdowns on a kickoff return and a punt return in the same game for the first time in franchise history, Breece Hall took a screen pass from Justin Fields 42 yards for the go-ahead score and the Jets held on to defeat the Cleveland Browns 27-20 on a rainy Sunday.

Five days after trading cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in stunning moves, the Jets (2-7) came off their bye-week break to win their second game in a row.

Kene Nwangwu returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and moments later, Isaiah Williams brought back a punt 74 yards for a score.

With the Jets leading 27-20, Fields scrambled on third-and-16 and Devin Bush was called for holding, giving New York a first down with 1:50 left at its 44.

Hall ran three times and the Jets lined up on fourth down to let the play clock run down before planning to call a timeout and punt, but Cleveland’s Cameron Thomas jumped — and New York had a fresh set of downs and the victory.

QB Fields, who started again after seeming to have a tenuous hold on the job, was only 6 of 11 for 54 yards with the TD to Hall and his first interception of the season.

49ers Ride Christian McCaffrey to 34-24 Win Over Giants

The San Francisco 49ers fought their way to another victory, beating the New York Giants 34-24 on the road to improve to 6-3 and remain firmly in the NFC West race.

San Francisco came in with depth concerns along the defensive line and without Brock Purdy once again. And things looked on edge early, as the Giants had an early 10-play, 64-yard touchdown drive. That marked the second straight game the 49ers defense gave up an opening drive touchdown after not having one for the entire season before that.

But, the 49ers recovered after that with a strong start from Mac Jones, taking a 17-7 halftime lead before cruising in the second half en route to a blowout victory.

Christian McCaffrey eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the second time this season, while totaling over 170 yards and two touchdowns on the day.
