Kansas City Chiefs Clinch Fifth Super Bowl Appearance In Six Years

The Kansas City Chiefs clinched their fifth Super Bowl appearance in six years, defeating the Buffalo Bills, 32-29, in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 218 yards and one touchdown on 16 of 24 passing, while also recording 45 yards and two touchdowns on nine rushing attempts, including a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Mahomes connected with wide receiver Xavier Worthy — who finished Sunday’s game with a team-best six receptions for 85 yards — on an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made a 35-yard field goal with 3:33 remaining in the fourth quarter to break a 32-29 tie.

Kansas City stopped Buffalo on its final offensive possession by forcing a turnover on downs with 2:00 remaining in the game, forcing the Bills to use all three of their timeouts on the final drive. The Chiefs will face the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which took place two years prior.

The Chiefs look to become the first franchise in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, having already won three in the last five years.
