No Surprise—Giants Fall to Eagles

The New York Giants closed out their 2024 regular season schedule with a trip down the New Jersey Turnpike to face the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The Eagles began the week locked into the No. 2 seed in the NFC and sat many of their key players, including former Giant running back Saquon Barkley, who was on pace to set a new NFL single-season mark for rushing yards.

The Giants were playing out the string and had most of their healthy starters on the field but played without inside linebacker Micah McFadden, center John Michael Schmitz, and right tackle Evan Neal again.
- The Giants could not muster much offense against an Eagles defense comprised of mainly backups. They had just 238 yards of total offense.
- The Eagles went 2-for-4 in the red zone, scoring two pass plays while the Giants only had one trip into the red zone and ended up kicking a field goal.
- The game was largely even statistically with the exception of penalties. The Giants had six for 40 yards while the Eagles had just one accepted penalty for zero yards.

Drew Lock’s pass deep left intended for Jalin Hyatt was intercepted by Eagles defensive back Sydney Brown at the Philadelphia 33-yard line and returned to the Giants’ 46 with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.
That killed any hope the Giants had of a comeback victory and sealed the 20-13 win for Philadelphia.

Buffalo Bills Destroy New York Jets

The Bills (13-3) routed the Jets (4-12) in a 40-14 final. New York only put up points once both teams pulled their starters from the contest in the fourth quarter, only further displaying Buffalo’s dominance on Sunday.
With the victory, the Bills have locked up the No. 2 overall seed in the AFC ahead of the 2024 NFL postseason. That means Buffalo earned a “defacto bye” in Week 18, which will give their starters some well-deserved rest.

The battle for the 2024 NFL MVP Award continues to go back and forth between Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Allen staked another claim against the Jets.
Allen was 16-for-27 passing for 182 yards with two touchdowns. Allen rushed in another score and did not turn the ball over.

The Jets only put points on the board when they took quarterback Aaron Rodgers out and put former Bill Tyrod Taylor under center. Buffalo’s defense essentially shutout New York. Both sides of the ball were fantastic for the Bills.

The top highlight for Buffalo was AJ Epenesa’s safety. Rodgers had a few backup offensive linemen in front of him due to injury. The Bills had four sacks, hit Rodgers six more times, and had two interceptions, even defensive tackle Jordan Phillips hauled one in. Over his past eight games, Rodgers only had one pick.

Juan Soto Gets $765 Million Dollar Deal From NY Mets

The New York Mets wanted Juan Soto to know his future with them could be set in stone.
When the free agent outfielder traveled to owner Steve Cohen’s house in Beverly Hills, California, for a presentation last month, the team unveiled a video that included an image of a future Soto statue outside Citi Field, next to the one erected of franchise great Tom Seaver.

“Everything that they showed me, what they have, what they want to do, it was incredible,” Soto said. “But my favorite part was the video.”
Juan Soto was introduced at Citi Field after his record $765 million, 15-year contract was finalized. He was flanked by Mets owner Steve Cohen, president of baseball operations David Stearns and agent Scott Boras.
Cohen purchased the Mets ahead of the 2021 season and has boosted them to baseball’s highest payroll in search of the team’s first title since 1986.

The value of Soto’s contract eclipsed Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million, 10-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last December. The 26-year-old Soto batted .288 with 41 homers, 109 RBIs and 129 walks this year and has a .285 career average with 201 homers, 592 RBIs and 769 walks over seven seasons with Washington, San Diego and the Yankees.
Soto’s success will be determined by World Series titles. The Yankees have 27, the Mets two.

Giants Beat Colts in a Shootout 45-33

Malik Nabers exploded for 171 yards and two touchdowns and Ihmir Smith-Marsette broke a 100-yard kickoff return to give the New York Giants their highest scoring output under Brian Daboll in a 45-33 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Drew Lock threw four touchdown passes and accounted for a fifth on the ground to seal the win, breaking a 10-game losing streak in the process.

Lock took a perfect 158.3 passer rating deep into the fourth quarter, completing 14 of his first 17 attempts for 254 yards and four touchdowns. He finished 17 of 23 for 309 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns, including a five-yard run to put the Giants ahead 42-33 with 2:57 left in the game.
Sixteen years passed between Joe Flacco’s first start against the Giants as a rookie with Baltimore in 2008 and his most recent.
Safety Dane Belton intercepted Flacco on the opening drive of the game, diving to make the catch inside the Giants 10-yard line. The Giants went 11 games without an interception this season but have notched one in three of the past four outings. Rookie Dru Phillips put an exclamation point on the game with his first career interception after Lock’s touchdown run.
The latest in a string of talented running backs that the Giants have faced, Jonathan Taylor ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. -
LA Rams Beat New York Jets

The Jets (4-11) started fast and held the ball for nearly an entire quarter but could not convert on a pair of timely fourth downs that resulted in 9 points and fell to the Rams (9-6), 19-9, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams picked up where they left off last week at Jacksonville as the Jets scored first on an 11-yard strike from Rodgers to Adams, who leaped in the back of the end zone to secure the pinpoint pass over Rams safety Kam Curl. The touchdown, which capped a 14-play, 99-yard drive in the first quarter, was No. 499 of Rodgers’ career and the 82nd to Adams, tying Dan Marino and Mark Clayton for the third-most touchdowns for a QB-WR duo in league history.

The Jets’ fast start in the coldest home game since the 2009 season continued as S Tony Adams intercepted Rams QB Matt Stafford, his first in the last six games, on the ensuing possession. That set up Rodgers & Co. on their 24-yard line, but the offense gave LA the ball back on the New York 33-yard line 4 plays later. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich elected go for it on fourth-and-1, but Breece Hall was stopped for no gain and a turnover on downs.
On the ensuing drive, Rodgers turned the ball over for the first time since Week 13. Curl punched the ball out from Rodgers’ hands and rookie edge rusher Jared Verse recovered on the Jets’ 21-yard line. Stafford’s touchdown pass to TE Tyler Higbee put the visitors up, 16-9, and the Rams later added a field goal with 5:22 remaining to seal the game.

Falcons Toy With Giants 34-7

The New York Giants headed down to Atlanta in Week 16 in hopes of breaking their nine-game losing streak and avoiding setting a new franchise record for consecutive losses.

They would have to do it against a Falcons team that was starting their top draft pick, Michael Penix Jr., at quarterback to help jumpstart their offense.

The Falcons entered the game with a 7-7 record and in the thick of the NFC postseason picture and were 8.5-point favorites over the listing Giants.
- Two pick-sixes by Giants quarterback Drew Lock gave the Falcons 14 easy points. For a team that’s averaged just 14.9 points per game this season, that put them in an insurmountable hole.
- The Giants needed to establish a ground game on offense but playing from behind and averaging 3.5 yards per carry on the 13 attempts they did have didn’t allow that to happen.
- The Giants’ inability to drive the football continued. Nine of their 11 drives consisted of just five plays or less.
Falcons defensive end Matthew Judon picked a tipped pass by Drew Lock out of the air and returned it for a touchdown 40 seconds into the second half to give the Falcons a 24-7 lead. There was no conceivable way the Giants could overcome that deficit.

Aaron Rodgers Leads Jets to 32-25 Win Over Jaguars

Sunday’s game for the New York Jets, in Week 15 of the 2024 season, may have been the first time this year they’ve produced a solid win. A real, convincing, take-the-lead-from-a-late-game-tie victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, 32-25.

This was the week the Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams connection finally paid off. Rodgers went 16-for-30 with three touchdowns and no interceptions, and despite that completion rate, he made each one count. Rodgers targeted Adams 12 times and Adams caught nine for 198 yards, which is the second-highest yards total of his career. All those years working together paid off everywhere, but especially on Adams’ two touchdowns (the first of which was the 100th of career). Adams also had a 71-yard catch.

The Rodgers-Adams connection got the Jets to the tie against the Jaguars. But it was running back Breece Hall, who missed Week 14 with a knee injury and was originally questionable to play this week, who ran the ball into the end zone to score the Jets’ winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter. And to tie it all up with a bow, Sauce Gardner snagged an interception with 44 seconds left in the 4th to snuff out any chance the Jags had of making a last-minute comeback.

Mike Tyson Breaks Silence On Jake Paul Bout

Hall of Famer and former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson broke his silence on his loss to social media influencer Jake Paul during an eight-round boxing exhibition as part of Netflix‘s live controversial streaming debut for the sport.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for the fight. No regrets to get in the ring one last time.”
“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in the hospital and had to get healthy: so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”

Jake Paul, 27, scored 80-72, 79-73, 79-73, over Tyson, 58, during the highly-anticipated event at AT&T Stadium. Fans were livid by the fight itself, which many online deemed to be boring and a cash-grab, as well as Netflix’s streaming issues throughout the night, with the service trending as many customers experienced buffering issues.
Tyson, the youngest boxer to ever win a heavyweight title and one of the most dominant ever in the weight class, went 50-6-2 (44 KO) in 58 career professional fights prior to the Netflix loss. Paul has a 10-1 record in 11 professional boxing matches.

NY Giants’ Woes Continue With 8th Straight Loss

The Giants dropped their eighth straight game on Sunday, losing to the New Orleans Saints, 14-11.
Drew Lock and the offense struggled for most of the day, but the defense kept the Giants in the game until the very end. Lock connected with Malik Nabers for a 22-yard catch to set the Giants up on the one-yard line, Tyrone Tracy punched it in, and Nabers caught the two-point conversion to make it a 14-11 game with 4:11 left.

The defense got another stop to get the ball back, but Lock threw an interception on 4th-and-nine. Yet again, New York’s defense forced a quick three-and-out to give Lock and the offense one more chance. The QB drove 56 yards in just over a minute to set up the game tying field goal, but Graham Gano‘s 35-yard attempt was blocked.

Lock finished the game 20-for-45 with 204 yards passing, one interception, and 59 yards rushing. Nabers had five receptions for 79 yards and Tracy ran for 45 yards with a TD.
