  • Giants Fall to Cowboys, 40-37, In Wild Overtime Contest

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys played one of the more exciting games in recent Giants’ history on Sunday. However, the ending was crushing for New York. Cowboys 40, Giants 37.

The overtime game saw 41 points scored in the fourth quarter, as Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson played well. A 64-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal sent this game to overtime after Wilson connected on a 48-yard touchdown bomb to Malik Nabers, which was after a short George Pickens touchdown that happened just after the two-minute warning.

Both teams were heavily penalized. The Giants committed 14 penalties for 160 yards, and Dallas committed 12 for 106 yards. New York went over 500 total offensive yards for the first time since 2011 – another game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants were the winners of that affair, but they failed to seize victory despite a valiant effort.

This was a completely different Wilson than we saw in Week 1 against Washington. Wilson finished the first half 17 of 20 for 235 yards with one touchdown. Wilson finished the game with 450 yards passing and 3 touchdowns.

  • Buffalo Bills Defense Smothers New York Jets

The Buffalo Bills were up 30-3 before the New York Jets even had an ounce of legitimate offense. Even before their starting quarterback was knocked from the game with a concussion, the Jets offense was held to historically low numbers.

The Jets didn’t convert any of their third downs, marking the second time the Bills defense has done that since 1990. (The Bills also did it to the Jets in 2023.)

The Bills’ passing defense was the big winner on the day. New York had only two completions in the first half. Justin Fields left the game early, but finished the day 3-of-11 for just 27 yards with two sacks. Tyrod Taylor fared a bit better in desperation mode, going 7-of-11 for 56 yards and New York’s lone touchdown (against the backups).

Joey Bosa forced two fumbles during the game, too.

  • Honda Recalls 500,000 Accords, Odysseys Over Seat Belt Problem

Honda is recalling a half-million vehicles in the US and Canada because the front seat belts may not latch properly.

The recall covers some of the the automaker’s top-selling models including the 2017 through 2020 CR-V, the 2018 and 2019 Accord, the 2018 through 2020 Odyssey and the 2019 Insight. Also included is the Acura RDX from the 2019 and 2020 model years.

Honda says that the surface coating on the channel for the buckle can deteriorate over time. The release button can shrink against the channel at lower temperatures, increasing friction and stopping the buckle from latching.

If the buckle doesn’t latch, a driver or passenger may not be restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

  • Aaron Rodgers Tosses 4 Touchdowns Against Jets in Tremendous Steelers Debut

There’s a lot of time left in the 2025 NFL season, but the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to sign Aaron Rodgers might just pay off. Rodgers led the Steelers to a touchdown on his first drive with the team, ending  a drought that dated to 2023.

That momentum carried through to the rest of the contest, as Rodgers threw four touchdowns in a fantastic 34-32 win in his Steelers debut against the New York Jets on Sunday.

The Steelers trailed most of the way before scoring two touchdowns in less than a minute early in the fourth quarter. The Jets briefly re-gained the lead before an 11-yard completion from Rodgers to DK Metcalf helped set up Chris Boswell’s game-winning field goal.

Rodgers finished the game with 244 yards on 22 of 30 passing. In a nice effort, Jets QB Fields threw for 218 yards and a touchdown against his former team. He also ran for two touchdowns on the ground.

  • Giants’ Offense Underwhelms in Season-Opening Loss to Commanders

Russell Wilson was handed the Giants’ starting quarterback job this summer, but he might not keep it long into the fall.

Wilson and the Giants’ offense struggled today in a season-opening 21-6 loss to the Commanders.

Giants first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart is currently Wilson’s backup, but Dart looked good enough in the preseason that many fans will want him to start, especially after Wilson could generate only two field goals today.

Wilson averaged just 4.5 yards per pass and a 45.9 percent completion rate, completing 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards. He was the Giants’ leading rusher with 44 yards on eight carries. The Giants need more passing and less rushing from Wilson.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels went 19-for-30 for 233 yards with a touchdown, and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had a strong debut with 10 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. Deebo Samuel was the Commanders’ leading receiver with seven catches for 77 yards.

  • Nolan McLean Dazzles Again as Mets Beat Phillies

Nolan McLean was making his third career start for the New York Mets on Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. In the series’ first two games, the Mets’ starting pitchers did not get past the sixth inning.

In just his third start, McLean absolutely dominated in a 6-0 win for New York over Philadelphia. In the game, he pitched eight innings and gave up four hits. McLean walked no batters and struck out six. He also didn’t approach 100 pitches on the night, which was even more impressive considering the fact that the starting pitching has struggled for most of the season.

Nolan McLean could be the New York Mets’ potential ace moving forward

Mets fans will not dispute that David Peterson has been the best starting pitcher on the team before McLean. Since McLean arrived, the rotation has been different and better.

During the Phillies matchup, McLean had the Phillies hitters looking confused. He has faced quality lineups in all three games he has appeared in. This could go a long way for the Mets.

  • New York Mets Bash Six Homers, Top Atlanta Braves

The Mets smashed six more home runs on Saturday and Clay Holmes pitched six innings for the first time in more than two months as New York defeated the Braves, 9-2, in Atlanta.

New York has hit 29 home runs in their last 11 games, including Saturday. Four Mets pitchers held the Braves to two runs on just five hits.

    • Jeff McNeil got the party started with a three-run shot, and the Mets went on to hit six homers to take a second straight game from Atlanta
    • Starling Marte turned in a vintage performance with three hits, two stolen bases, a laser beam throw for a putout at the plate
    • Top pitching prospect Jonah Tong was excellent again for Syracuse, and he is reportedly in the conversation to join the big-league roster this year
    • Frankie Montas’ disappointing debut season with the Mets is over, as the veteran has a “pretty significant” UCL injury and could need Tommy John surgery
    • With Montas out for the year, Huascar Brazoban has been recalled to give the Mets another bullpen arm
  • Texas Longhorns Started the 2025 College Football Season as the No. 1 Ranked Team

The Texas Longhorns will start the 2025 college football season as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, according to the Associated Press‘ Preseason Top 25 College Football Poll.

The Longhorns, who were eliminated by the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff Semifinals, are coming off a 13-3 (7-1 SEC) regular season, their first as a member of the Southeastern Conference. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning, who started multiple games in the absence of Quinn Ewers, will take over as the team’s full-time starter in 2025.

Texas had never previously opened the season as the No. 1 overall team in the AP Top 25. The Penn State Nittany Lions, who were also eliminated in the College Football Playoff Semifinals, rank No. 2 in the preseason poll, followed by defending national champion Ohio State, the Clemson Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs.
